Our History

The Episcopal Church of the Resurrection was founded on Pentecost Sunday in 1993 as an aided parish of Grace-Calvary Episcopal Church in Habersham County.

The founding 12 families initially held services in people’s homes, then in the old White County Courthouse on the Square in Cleveland and then in the United Community Bank annex building.

The current site of the church became available when a 1994 Palm Sunday tornado destroyed the new home of a parishioner. The 34-acre property was purchased by Resurrection, construction began, and the building was dedicated on Pentecost Sunday 1996. In 1999, additional educational space and provisions for a preschool were started to benefit the parish and the community.

Resurrection has grown from the original 12 families to more than 130 families with an average Sunday attendance of 85 parishioners and guests.
