Jesus Falls the Second Time

Jesus’ weakened body and the constant weight of the cross are too much for him. He collapses once more onto the ground of Golgotha, not knowing if or when he will be able to stand. What happened to Simon of Cyrene?!? Was it just too painful for him to see Jesus so vulnerable, so broken? Was he somehow disappointed?
For Reflection:
What we often fear the most is that others will see “who we really are” and decide that we are unworthy of their love, their presence. In moments of dark doubt, what old fears of abandonment have crowded back into your consciousness?
Action:
As we move through this unprecedented COVID-19 pandemic, we hear stories of relapses, stories of patients getting better, only to have their bodies collapse once more. We remember that Jesus is present to all whose bodies collapse again and fall for a second time under the weight of illness, pain, or suffering.
Pray in silence and remember you are a beloved child of God and remember how deeply we are known and loved by God.
When you’re ready, offer this prayer and move to the next station.
Prayer: We adore you, O Christ and we bless you. Because by your Holy Cross, you have redeemed the world. Amen.
