Veronica Wipes His Face
Daniel Haynes
Painting by Jen Norton https://www.jennortonartstudio.com/jen-norton-catholic-art-blog/
As Jesus continues his sweat and blood drips from the crown of thorns. Veronica, whose name means beautiful image, wipes the sweat away and does what he cannot do alone. This legend begs to be believed, because each of us wants to imagine that we can hold in our hands some token that assures us of our close proximity to our Lord.
For Reflection:
What icon, memento, or object has offered you assurance that God is near, no matter how troubling the situation?
Action:
In the midst of this pandemic, we give thanks for all essential workers and those working tirelessly to create a vaccine, and others, who follow in the footsteps of Veronica, and keep us going because of their selfless actions. We pray for each of them and ask that they might see the face of Christ in those they serve.
Pray in silence for all essential workers and ask that God grants wisdom to those working on a vaccine.
When you’re ready, offer this prayer and move to the next station.
Prayer: We adore you, O Christ and we bless you. Because by your Holy Cross, you have redeemed the world. Amen.
